What You Need To Know About Spending A Night At The Incredible Robson River Campground

We decided to spend a night at the Robson River Campground before taking on the Berg Lake Trail, wow were in for a pleasant surprise! This small riverside campground offers treed, private sites, some with gorgeous river views. The powered sites look recently revitalized with fresh gravel and outhouses. Typically we stay across the Highway at Robson Meadows campground and now I understand why it is beyond hard to get a reservation at Robson River campground.

For those looking for a one night stop, this campground can tick the box, but if you are looking to explore Mount Robson Provincial Park over a few days, the Robson River campground makes the perfect, peaceful spot to base yourself from.

The Robson River Campground

Number of sites: 40 sites, 22 with electrical hook ups.

Operating season: May 2nd to September 30th

Reservations: Required. There are two first come first serve sites.

Cell Reception: None

The Robson River campground is filled with big lush trees, there are large sites, some with separate tent pads (yes it was like camping on the beach in our spot, didn’t think I’d get sand in my tent in the mountains haha)

It looked like the electrical spots had some work done in the last few years as they were in excellent condition with fresh looking gravel and new plastic style outhouses. In the tenting loop, the sites were also in good condition but with older style wooden outhouses. Between the two areas is a shower room with flushing toilets. There is also a large dishwashing sink on the back of the building.

Each individual site is a good size, with a large picnic bench and fire pit. There are garbage cans and recycling bins around the campground as well as potable water taps.

We stayed in site R17 and we could see the river and glimpses of the mountains. It was a great and relaxing spot with the river noise to fall asleep to. I will say most sites seem to be able to hear the highway, however it didn’t bother us. With plenty of forest surrounding each site, you could have been anywhere!

There isn’t a playpark at the Robson River campground, however there was a horseshoe throwing area, for those who want to play! There is also a short maintained trail which heads down to the river and offers up some spectacular views just minutes from the campground.

No check in is required, however parks staff do frequent the site and check permits and attach them to your post. You can also hang a wood tag on the campsite post and a wood truck comes round in the evening and drops off.

I can’t rate the Robson River campground highly enough, I can’t wait to go back to this well maintained campground in a primo location. The perfect camp spot for mountain lovers.

How To Reserve A Site At Robson River Campground

The easiest way to reserve a site at Robson River campground is online at the BC Parks camping website. Reservations can be made on a rolling window up to four months in advance. I’d recommend booking early to guarantee your spot, this is a very popular campground.

It costs $28 per night to stay at the Robson River campground, if you stay in an electrical site, it is an extra $8. There is also a $6 transaction fee when you book.

What To Do Nearby

Check out the Mount Robson Visitor Center which is just down the road from the Robson River campground, it is packed with gifts, as well as a small museum in the basement. There is a short interpretive walk around the center and a large wooden balcony offering views of the spectacular Mount Robson. Next door there is a gas station which also carries snacks and souvenirs as well as a cafe to fuel your adventures if you don’t want to cook in camp.

For those looking to stretch their legs, there are hiking opportunities for all abilities in the Mount Robson Provincial Park. Head to Overlander Falls which is a five minute drive from the campground for a short, relatively easy hike. Or for a half day hike, follow the Kinney Lake trail through lush forest to a bright blue lake, with picnic benches on the shore to enjoy. Anyone desperate for a big day could consider the Berg Lake hike, continuing on past Kinney Lake, gaining a large amount of elevation to take in the bright blue lake with a glacier dipping right into it.
