When it comes to incredible mountain locations, the Robson Meadows Campground is up there! Nestled in the forest opposite to the Mount Robson viewing area there are hiking opportunities right on the campground doorstep to keep you busy and help you truly enjoy the area.
Mount Robson is the highest peak in the Canadian Rockies and it is a sight to see. While many people just visit briefly, camping at the Robson Meadows campground allows you a much better chance to see the peak in all its glory, since it is often surrounded by clouds. Along with this the Mount Robson Provincial Park offers a wide range of hiking opportunities for all abilities as well as paddling opportunities.

Everything You Need To Know About The Robson Meadows Campground
The Robson Meadows Campground is on the larger side with 125 vehicle accessible sites in total. The campground is laid out in a spiral with another road cutting through the middle. There are no services at any of the campsites so come prepared. There are water taps around the campground but when we visited there was a boil water advisory for the water.
There are two powered washroom buildings with flush toilets, running water in the sinks and showers. These buildings are fairly small, in the women’s washroom there are two shower cubicles, three toilets and a sink. The men’s area is on the other side of the building and in the middle sits an accessible washroom with a shower.
Along with the two main washroom buildings there are a number of other drop toilets located throughout the Robson Meadows Campground, meaning you are never too far away from facilities!
Each individual site has a large picnic bench and firepit. Most of the sites we saw were fairly spacious with a good amount of trees providing privacy. I will say one side of the outer spiral of sites is quite close to the highway and so they were quite loud although most traffic eases overnight. If you want a more peaceful time look to book a site in the middle or opposite side of the Robson Meadows Campground.
There is no cell reception at the Robson Meadows Campground so make sure you don’t need to rely on this to plan your trip once you arrive. On the opposite side of the highway you’ll find a Cafe and small store, mostly catering to day visitors, along with the Mount Robson visitor centre, a great spot to get ideas on what you can do in the area.
Booking A Site At Robson Meadows Campground
To make sure you secure your site at the Robson Meadows Campground, book online through the camping reservation website or call the camping reservation number.
Spots can be booked up to four months in advance and I’d encourage booking sooner rather than later to avoid disappointment.
There are also a number of designated first come first serve sites in the Robson Meadows Campground if you don’t get a booking.
I must say we booked a site in advance but when we turned up the campground had lots of sites marked available to pick from and then someone came round and collected the $25 per night fee. That was mid week in late June though and I have no doubt it gets busier during July and August.
Where Is The Robson Meadows Campground
The Robson Meadows campground is located just off Highway 16, if you are coming from Jasper, its approximately an 85 kilometre drive. If you are driving from the West it is a short 16 kilometres from the Highway 16 and Highway 5 intersection allowing access from Prince George or Kamloops.
Clearly signed from Highway 16, the Robson Meadows campground is located just off the highway on the opposite side to the Mount Robson visitor centre.
Things To Do Nearby
From the Robson Meadows Campground you can complete the Fraser Loop and Fraser River hikes, each taking 30 and 90 minutes approximately. Another great option from the Robson Meadows Campground is the Overlander Falls trail. This hike can be accessed from the campground or by taking a short drive along the highway to the main trailhead. Allow around an hour and a half to complete the hike to the falls from the campground.
On the opposite side of the highway to the Robson Meadows campground is the famed Berg Lake Trail, a multi-day hike for many, the trail is currently closed for repairs after flooding. As of June 2023 the Berg Lake Trail is now open to Kinney Lake, this interpretative trail to a gorgeous alpine lake is a worthwhile trip, take a picnic to enjoy at the campground before turning around and heading back.
Items You Might Need To Help Enjoy Your Trip
When it comes to camping in the mountains, the weather can change rapidly. Make sure to pack for all weather conditions. I find my Arcteryx Atom Lt jacket helps keep me toasty in cooler weather and a pair of socks with my Chaco sandals keep my toes warm on cooler days at camp.
For adverse weather, most of the sites at Robson Meadows Campground are surrounded by trees, so make sure to pack a tarp and rope if the weather forecast calls for rain!
If you are planning on exploring the trails near the campground, make sure to pack some good hiking boots, my go to boot is the LA Sportiva Raptor 2. Lightweight, waterproof and comfortable straight from the box!
