The Miette Campground in Jasper National Park is one of my favorites in the park. Located outside of the town of Jasper, Miette campground is a great spot to relax and unwind in nature. More primitive than the Whistlers and Wapiti campgrounds near the town of Jasper but still with running water, this is the perfect spot for a break!
We camped at the Miette Campground for a night before starting the Skyline trail in Jasper, it was the perfect peaceful spot and we spent the evening relaxing up the road the Miette Hot Springs.

The Miette Campground
The Miette campground in Jasper is a little slice of peace and quiet. Despite its larger size, the campground is split into 5 loops and there is relatively good privacy between the sites thanks to the trees.

The 140 sites at Miette campground are on the smaller side, so they are most suited to tents or small RVs and trailers. There are also a number of walk-in sites, these being some of the nicest on offer if you are happy to shuttle your stuff from the car.
There are 10 walk in sites in total, five off of Loop B and five off of loop F. There are designated parking areas and most sites are a relatively short walk from your vehicle.

All the sites in the Miette campground have a firepit and picnic bench, when you reserve your site, a fire permit is automatically added on for each night of your reservation and firewood is provided as the campground as part of that price.
The washroom building are clean, with flushing toilets and hand washing sinks inside. Outside the buildings there are large dishwashing sinks and potable water taps.
When we were staying at Miette campground, it poured all afternoon and all night, what was clearly missing, was any form of shelter like you find at some Parks Canada campgrounds, not an issue, if you are prepared, but definitely a consideration if you aren’t planning on bringing a tarp or gazebo.

Reserving A Site At Miette Campground
Camping reservations for Miette campground open on Tuesday 27th January 2026 at 8am MST and the easiest way to book is on the Parks Canada Reservation Site. If you can book in advance, I’d definitely recommend it, otherwise we snagged a cancellation when we camped there in summer 2025.
A night of camping at Miette campground will cost $40.50 in 2026 for sites with a firepit, plus there is an $11.50 reservation fee. Meanwhile a campfire permit is $12 and added on to each night of your stay when you book. For walk-in sites, a night of camping costs $27.75.

Things To Do Nearby
Right from the Miette campground, there is a trail which will take you to the Punchbowl Falls viewpoint, this is a relatively short trail, perfect for a nice afternoon at camp. The forested trail leads you from the campground to a viewpoint of the falls.
For those looking for a relaxing experience, continue along the road past the campground to get to the Miette Hot Springs. It is around a 20 minute drive along windy mountain roads. The pools are nestled into the valley side and offer a hot pool, a warm pool as well as a cold plunge, managed by Parks Canada. They get pretty busy so prepare to share. I have to say, we headed up here from camp since it was raining, and relaxing in the hot pool while it rained was the perfect way to spend an evening! Don’t forget your bathing suit. They do have towel rentals if you need them.

The Miette Hot Springs area is also a hub of hiking, with the most popular being the Sulphur Skyline hike, the trailhead uses the same parking as the hot springs, and is clearly signed. The trail is only around 4km one way but with over 600m of elevation gain, you work hard. The trail breaks treeline though and the views are spectacular.
Jasper is a 30-40 minute scenic drive from the Miette campground. If you want to head into town and explore, do some shopping or head to a restaurant, it is an easy drive.
What We Packed
Tent – We love to have a larger tent for frontcountry camping, allowing us to have a queen air mattress and more storage space for our stuff.
Tarp – We would have had a pretty miserable time without a tarp, simply because the weather was so bad, this is easy to set up since the sites at the Miette campground are mostly surrounded by trees.
Firestarter – It really did pour rain when we visited, a firestarter helped get the fire going with damp wood.
Bear Spray – Even though it is a busy campground, the Miette campground is still in bear country, carry bear spray and know how to use it.
