The Best Ways To Spend A Rainy Day In Revelstoke
Greenbelt Trail
The Greenbelt trail system in Revelstoke is the perfect centrally located trail system and a great option for a rainy day in Revelstoke. The main paved trail is cleared of snow making it ideal for families looking for fresh air. Alternatively you can hit the other trails which, when I was there, involved some slushy, snow ice walking. These also often give easy access to the river shore. I walked alongside the river for some time, enjoying the views and easy access the winter low water level offered.
Museums
The town has a number of different museums, perfect to explore on a rainy day in Revelstoke. There are a few located in the downtown area such as the Railway Museum as well as a few outside of town such as the BC Interior Forestry Museum. During the winter and shoulder seasons, check on their opening days as these spots are typically not open seven days a week or only open in May for the summer season. But they can make a great spot so spend a rainy day in Revelstoke if they are open.
Alley Alleries
If you aren’t afraid to head out in the rain, take some time to check out the artwork in the alleyways. Revelstoke has taken an otherwise underused and forgotten area and put art in it to catch the eye.
Coffee Shops
There are plenty of amazing coffee shops to tuck up in during a rainy day in Revelstoke. These spots offer amazing drinks as well as tasty snacks. I tried out Conversations Coffee Shop and it was so relaxing. The coffee and cake I had was amazing and it was the perfect spot to stop in and watch the rain pour outside while cradling a cup of coffee.
Eat At A Restaurant
There are plenty of amazing restaurants in town and a rainy day in Revelstoke is the perfect time to explore some of these eateries. The Taco Club has amazing flavors and had a great happy hour deal when we visited. Check out the Old School Eatery for an amazing brunch or dinner feast in an old schoolhouse. We ate at Zala’s one night since it was right beside our hotel and they serve up their pizza perfectly!
Hot Springs
If it’s already raining, why not get even wetter and check out a hot pool. Revelstoke is lucky enough to sit within driving distance of a number of them. The Halcyon Hot Springs to the South is amazing, although it is an hour’s drive including a free ferry trip across Arrow Lakes. These gorgeous pools look out over Arrow Lake and can’t be beaten for stunning views.
We tried out the Crazy Creek Hot Pools on this trip having already visited Halcyon. These hot pools and a cold plunge pool are located right off Highway One and were incredibly quiet when we visited on a Wednesday in Mid March. Surrounded by forest offering glimpses of the mountains around the area, this spot is also beautiful although there is some traffic noise but that didn’t bother us. These are around a 30 minute drive from Revelstoke.
Things You Might Want To Pack
First things first, if the forecast shows rain, don’t leave home without your rain jacket. If you forget one or don’t have one, there are plenty of shops in Revelstoke to pick one up. My go to rain jacket is the Patagonia Granite Crest Rain jacket. This guy is a little on the pricey side, I also owned a Black Diamond Stormline Stretch which was great too. You’ll have a much more enjoyable rainy day in Revelstoke if you have the means to stay somewhat dry!
Since it was a rainy spring day when we visited Revelstoke, I found a pair of Goretex hiking boots necessary for exploring the slushy trails in town. They gave me great traction and kept my feet toasty warm and dry! I wear the La Sportiva Raptor 2 boots and love them for almost any adventure including this.
If you are planning on hanging out in a cozy coffee shop, don’t forget a book or a kindle. The perfect companion when relaxing with a hot coffee for an hour or two.
Where To Stay In Revelstoke
We stayed at the Northwinds by Basecamp motel, it was a really great price, the room was large with a fridge and microwave. It had everything we needed for a comfortable stay with no frills and for a great price.
If you are looking for something a bit more high end, there are a number of options including Basecamp Resorts in Revelstoke, although just outside of downtown these gorgeous suites have everything you need for a great time. Alternatively The Regent Hotel is right in downtown Revelstoke making it the perfect base for a rainy stay in Revelstoke, with a bar and a restaurant attached.
